Woodnotes was the first company to bring paper yarn into contemporary textile design. Founded by Finnish textile artist Ritva Puotila, the brand spins paper, made from renewable wood, into a strong, water-resistant yarn that is easy to clean. Puotila set out to pair the spirit of Finland’s wild landscapes with fine craftsmanship and modern technology, and she found her ideal material in paper, prized for its lightness, soft rustle and luminous colour. Every Woodnotes rug is woven in Lapua, Ostrobothnia.

“Paper has properties that differ fundamentally from the other fibres I use: its lightness and rustling, its clean natural tone, its whiteness and the glow of colour.”
— Ritva Puotila, Founder & Artist
