Mondrian Cabinet

Usually anniversaries are celebrated with champagne and candles – we celebrate with a design classic. Our wardrobe “Mondrian” was the very first piece of furniture to be included in our collection 1977 and is thus plays an important role in The Röthlisberg success story. Forty years of perfection – this is what we are celebrate with a new edition of this timeless cupboard. Inspired by the colours and space division in the paintings of Piet Mondrian (1872-1944), designer Koni Ochsner designed the Mondrian cupboard in 1976 as functional piece of furniture for individualists. Linear and colourful, it stays true to Mondrian’s principles of abstracting everything until only the essence is visible. Colours and proportions of the cabinet are designed according to functionality. The production and the elaborate workmanship involve a lot of handcraft and the maximum gloss level of the surface gives “Mondrian” its elegant appearance. A mirrored base reflects the floor and creates the illusion of a floating cabinet.

Koni Ochsner/Werkdesign

Koni Ochsner played a key role in the early years of the Röthlisberger Kollektion and for many Swiss people is still the classic furniture designer, as exemplified by the Mondrian cupboard. Ochsner (1933–1995) is a designer and artist who studied under Willy Guhl and has won numerous international and national awards for furniture and clock design. Today we pay tribute to him with the Arcos table, a design that was ahead of its time and had to wait for the production process to chatch up. played a key role in the early years of the Röthlisberger Kollektion and for many Swiss people is still the classic furniture designer, as exemplified by the Mondrian cupboard.
