Philip Burrows
Philip, shown here seated on a delightfully indulgent velvet Bibendum chair by Eileen Gray from ClassiCon, discovered his passion for design while travelling in Europe on his gap year/s. When he returned to Australia, Burrows’ entrepreneurial spirit led him to start retail and hospitality businesses in his hometown of Newcastle before moving to Sydney to explore the property market. Philip worked with a leading Australian furniture retailer before moving to Anibou with Neil Burley and Ute Rose. In 2015 Philip took over the business in partnership with his fellow Anibou directors Daniel, Alexander and David. Philip is our Managing Director.
Daniel Henzi
Daniel, shown sitting comfortably on an elegant S533 in wicker from THONET GmbH by Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, was born in Solothurn in Switzerland where, presented with the choice of either money or chocolate, he took up a banking apprenticeship. A love of theatre and architecture moved him to Basel where he studied business administration. In 2007 Daniel moved to Australia and found Anibou. Unsurprisingly Daniel is our money man and Finance Director.
Alexander Lance
Alex, looks very relaxed here on his favourite Paimio chair from Artek by Alvar Aalto. He was born in Melbourne and studied industrial design but moved to Sydney where his passion for cars found him working with Classic Throttle Shop and Bonhams with a brief Muay Thai moment on Koh Yao Yai Island in Thailand in between. His mum introduced him to Alvar Aalto and furniture collecting introduced Alex to Anibou with the acquisition of an Aalto designed Artek 544. Alex started working with Anibou in 2012 and then became a partner in 2015. He is Sales Director of the company.
Benjamin Weidner
Ben, is leaning against a tidy composition from USM, which makes sense because he is Anibou’s USM man and familiar with putting things together. The Berliner worked in film and television on major international and German productions including The Counterfeiters, The Reader, Inglourious Basterds, Hanna and V for Vendetta before relocating to Sydney. He continued to work as a Unit Manager on national and international TVCs, TV series and feature films on location in Sydney and regional Australia before Alex offered him the USM role and a friendlier work schedule.
Tama
Tama has been with Anibou for 25 of our 30 years running the Sydney warehouse. He is a consummate professional and perfectionist so it makes sense that he keeps an eye on everything back of house.
David Gisonda
David, kicking back on a Artek 400 chair, was born in Melbourne and manages our Melbourne showroom. He’s passionate about architecture and design, cut his teeth with some of Australia’s leading furniture brands and spent a good amount of time snowboarding around the world between DJ sets. David is our Operations Director and runs national logistics for Anibou.
Adrian Davey
Adrian’s passion for furniture began early when he was taught carpentry skills from his father growing up. From here he progressed to studying sculpture and furniture design at university. Adrian has had 15 years’ experience working within Australia’s leading furniture retailers, during this time he has consulted nationally on projects as well as travelled to Europe to observe and learn about world class manufacturing. Adrian’s passion for design culminated in his decision to design and construct his own home, a project that he completed in 2020
Marc Cheeng
Confidently perched here on an Artek High Chair K65 designed by Alvar Aalto in the 30s, was born in Kuala Lumpur and grew up behind the counter at his mum’s boutique where he developed an eye for design and natural affinity for impeccable service. He studied architecture in Melbourne and has a passion for collecting and hand making including ceramics and leatherwork. He even constructed and upholstered his own sofa. Marc loves good food and appreciates quality which inevitably brought him to Anibou.
